Paris Jackson: A Story of Second Chances and Redemption

Not Just Another Pretty Pup

This is the story of a very special dog called Paris Jackson. She’s not just any dog—her face is half black and half white, a strikingly beautiful and unforgettable look. But it’s not just her face that makes people stop and stare—it’s the story behind it. A story of second chances, resilience, and redemption.

From the Streets of Phillipi to the Heart of Sea Point

Paris came from a disadvantaged community called Phillipi in the Western Cape. She was rescued from terrible neglect and abuse, and still bears the sad scars on her sweet face. But beneath those scars lies a soft, gentle soul, waiting to be loved.

Oscar’s Ark Woof Project had her up for adoption when Brandon Challis first laid eyes on her. At that point, Brandon was still grieving the loss of his beloved Rottweiler, Hiro, who had recently moved to Namibia with family. Letting go wasn’t easy, but knowing that his dog was in good hands—loved, safe, and destined for a joyful life—helped Brandon say goodbye with a heart full of love.

A Meeting of Souls

And then came Paris Jackson. It was a meeting of souls at first glance. Brandon was ready to give his heart again, and Paris was ready for a forever home—to be loved, cherished, and safe for the rest of her days. And cherished she has been—spoilt too, as any good dog deserves to be!

No Pets Allowed? Not a Chance

But the story doesn’t end there.

There was a fight to get Paris allowed into Brandon’s new apartment in Sea Point. The building wasn’t pet-friendly at first, but Brandon was determined that nothing would stand in the way of sharing life with his beloved companion. Thankfully, along came the Sectional Title Act, which states that a body corporate cannot prevent you from having one dog—as long as she doesn’t disturb the neighbours.

And she wouldn’t. Paris is a good girl. Quiet and chilled, she is more than welcome in her new home.

The Joys of Apartment Life

At home, Paris is absolutely in love with her favourite toy—a stuffed rhino. It’s sturdy in stature, and although it’s now showing more signs of wear than tear (as any loved toy should!), she still carries it everywhere, into every room, and even into bed.

Her Favourite Treats? She’s Got Taste

When it comes to treat and chew time, nothing comes before a Pets Elite Achilles tendon. She’ll be busy gnawing happily away for hours on end. Not that Paris would say no to a biscuit—she's no fool—but like any self-respecting doggo, she’s got her favourites. It must, of course, be said that like all South Africans, she adores biltong, and who can blame her?

A Dip in the Atlantic, Daily

Out and about, this special pup and her parent Brandon love nothing more than their daily dip in the icy cold Atlantic at Saunders Beach. It’s over the rocks and into the sea with a woof and a wag. A routine. A ritual. Something shared and special.

When She's Not Swimming? Squirrel Patrol!

As for other exercise? Paris is a committed squirrel chaser. But we’re afraid she never even comes close—and Brandon suspects she never will. That doesn’t stop her trying, of course.

Everyone on the Sea Point Promenade knows Paris. She’s a local fixture—beloved by all.

Brekkie, Din-Dins, and a Whole Lot of Love

And when it’s time to head home for brekkie or din-dins, out comes the Montego Classic, and Paris dives into her bowl without hesitation. Thank you very much!

Pet Peeves? She Has a Few

Paris is as gentle as a summer’s kiss when it comes to babies—but she has no time at all for large groups of raucous kids. Oh, and she takes definite offence to sticks, even ball throwers. Just no, thanks.

Why Paris Jackson?

Brandon originally wanted to call her Michael—after Michael Jackson—because of her markings. But he settled on Paris Jackson, which turns out to be the perfect name for a beauty like her.

Her Favourite Place in the World (Besides the Beach)

And we couldn’t finish this story without mentioning Paris's favourite shop—Petworld Express in the Artem Shopping Centre. Whether it’s treats, toys, or tail wags, that’s her happy place. She’s not just part of Brandon’s life; she’s part of the Petworld family, and a proud Sea Point inhabitant. In Brandon's words:

"I can not walk past Petworld without her dragging me in even if I don't need anything! She walks through all the aisles sniffing all the treats before I can leave."

A Tail Like No Other—Could It Be Yours?

At Petworld, we believe every pet is special—but now and then, a story comes along that truly touches the heart. Maybe your companion arrived in a way you never expected. Maybe they’ve overcome the odds, or have a curious little quirk or talent that’s uniquely their own.

We’d love to hear about the pets who’ve left pawprints not only on your heart but on the world around them. If you and your furry (or feathery, or scaly!) friend share a story that’s a little out of the ordinary—something moving, inspiring, or just wonderfully unexpected—please reach out. Put Pets Tails in the subject line and email customerservice@petworld.co.za.

These are the stories we treasure most, and we may be able to share yours in an upcoming feature.
