Some weekends are made for errands. Others may quietly change the course of a life.
On Saturday 1 August and Sunday 2 August 2026, Welfare Worx will welcome three dedicated animal welfare organisations to four Petworld stores for six Adoption Day events filled with hopeful introductions, wagging tails and the possibility of forever.
From dogs and cats to playful puppies and curious kittens, rescued animals will be waiting to meet the people who could become part of their next chapter.
The events run from 10am to 2pm. Come through, speak to the welfare teams and give yourself time to meet the animals. You may arrive simply to look. You may leave wondering how your home ever felt complete without them.
What happens at a Welfare Worx Adoption Day?
A Welfare Worx Adoption Day brings rescued animals out of shelters and foster homes and into welcoming Petworld stores, where they have a better chance of being seen.
Potential adopters can meet the animals in person and speak directly to the welfare teams who know their personalities, histories and needs. This makes it easier to understand whether a particular pet will suit your home, family and lifestyle.
There is no pressure to make an immediate decision. Responsible adoption is about finding the right match, not the fastest one. Sometimes the connection is instant. Sometimes it begins with a conversation, an application and a little more time.
Each Adoption Day is also an opportunity to discover more about rescue work, responsible pet ownership, fostering and the many practical ways ordinary people can support animals in need.
Saturday 1 August: Three stores filled with possibility
Petworld XXL Somerset West
Mdzananda Animal Clinic & Shelter will bring dogs and cats to Somerset West, giving visitors the opportunity to meet animals from different ages, backgrounds and personalities.

Cape Town Paws will be at N1 City with canines and kittens hoping to catch the eye—and perhaps the heart—of someone special.

Sunday 2 August: A second chance to meet them

Mdzananda returns to Somerset West on Sunday with more dogs and cats ready to meet potential adopters. For anyone unable to visit on Saturday, this second Adoption Day offers another opportunity to make a meaningful connection.

Chocolate’s Angels will visit Diep River with puppies searching for responsible homes and families ready for the commitment that comes with raising a young dog.

Before visiting an Adoption Day
The welfare organisations always put the animals’ wellbeing first. The expected line-up may therefore change because of health, transport, readiness or an animal finding a home before the weekend.

Adoption is also more than choosing the cutest face in the room. Consider your available space, household routine, existing pets, finances and the time required for settling in, training and lifelong care.
The welfare team may ask questions, conduct checks or arrange follow-up steps. This is not designed to make adoption difficult. It helps ensure that each animal is placed in a home where they can feel secure and remain loved for life.
Why every Adoption Day matters
Every successful adoption creates a ripple effect.
One rescued pet gains a family. A family discovers companionship and unconditional love. Space opens at the welfare organisation, allowing another vulnerable animal to be helped. Resources stretch further, volunteers are encouraged and another rescue story can begin.
Even when an animal is not adopted on the day, the exposure matters. A photograph may be shared. A conversation may lead to an application later. Someone may decide to foster, donate or tell a friend.
An Adoption Day gives rescued animals something they urgently need: the chance to be noticed.
