There is a special kind of excitement in the air when an Adoption Day begins.
Leads are clipped on. Blankets are folded. Volunteers arrive with hopeful hearts. Curious noses lift. Tails begin to wag. Somewhere among the families walking through the doors may be the person one rescued animal has been waiting for all along.
On 25 and 26 July, Petworld Welfare Worx will welcome six welfare organisations to participating Petworld stores for a weekend filled with second chances, new beginnings and the possibility of forever.
The adorable Dachshund Darlings are only the beginning. Across the weekend, rescued dogs, puppies, and cats and kittens, will be waiting to meet the people who could change their lives.
A Weekend Filled with Possibility
From 10am to 2pm, participating Petworld stores will become meeting places for animals and families searching for one another.
On Saturday 25 July, Mdzananda will be at both Somerset West and Cape Gate, Cape Town Paws will visit Diep River, and Happy Tails Langa will be at N1 City.
On Sunday 26 July, Mdzananda returns to Somerset West, while Howlelujah will be at Cape Gate.
Each stop brings a new group of animals, a new welfare team and another chance for someone to say, “You’re coming home with me.”
More Stores. More Welfare Organisations. More Hope.
The weekend continues in Roodepoort, where even more animals will be waiting for their opportunity to be seen.
On Saturday 25 July, A New Hope Dog Rescue will be at Petworld Roodepoort.
On Sunday 26 July, Castaways Animal Sanctuary will take over the store with rescued animals hoping that this will finally be their day.
Some may be playful puppies. Some may be older dogs who have already waited far too long. Some may be shy at first. Others may greet every visitor as though they have been expecting them.
Every one of them deserves to be noticed.
Warmth Before the Welcome
This Adoption Days weekend also marks a meaningful moment in the Mandela Day Blanket Drive.
Blanket handovers will take place between 10am and 11am, at the start of each Adoption Day. These blankets represent more than warmth. They are a reminder that compassion can be practical, immediate and life-changing.
Every blanket handed over will help bring comfort to an animal in need. Every person who donated, shared or supported the drive has helped create that moment.
And while the blankets will keep animals warm, adoption may give them something even greater: a place to belong.
Could Someone Be Waiting for You?
Not every animal attending the weekend will be shown in advance, and availability may change as welfare teams confirm who is ready to meet potential families.
